Information Collection and Use
Campbell River Tourism Promotion Society is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We do not share, sell, or rent this information to any third parties in ways other than what we disclose later in this policy. We have a volunteer Board of Directors that manages the web site for different tasks and are bound by this policy. They access this information only if their task requires it.
As of January 1, 2004, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) came into full effect. This is a Federal privacy legislation to protect the privacy of personal information and is a national policy on unsolicited consumer e-mail, also known as SPAM.
Campbell River Tourism is a small organization completely funded by memberships to the organization. It is important that the use of these limited funds are as effective as possible. We have implemented a survey for our visitors as a tool to collect some vital data in exchange for the download of our online travel brochure. It takes a few short minutes to fill out and the information allows us to cater our website content to the needs of our visitors. The survey also asks for feedback about our website, which is quickly becoming our most effective marketing tool. We appreciate any comments you may have and the opportunity for improvement. Our goal is to make our website an invaluable resource when planning your visit to our area.
Within the survey, you will be asked if you would like to receive more information from our organization. You can specify which types of information you would like to receive from us. We are a volunteer organization and this method allows us to manage the numerous requests more efficiently by automating some of the processing. Each of the following questions are independent of each other and do not affect the results of the other questions. If you select no to all three of the following questions, you will receive no contact from Campbell River Tourism.
After you have selected the various reasons for your visit to Campbell River, you will be asked if you wish to be contacted by our qualified members that offer services related to the reasons you have listed. This is an automated process that will forward your contact information to only the related businesses IF you select yes to this particular question.
Later in the survey, you will be asked if you would like to receive information from Campbell River Tourism, the organization itself, and refers to our Visitor Guide mailed through the postal system and any other tourism related information that you have requested. It will not be passed to our members.
The next question asks if you wish to be notified of when our online auctions begin. Our auctions can provide you an opportunity to receive substantial savings on such things as accommodations, salmon fishing, whale watching, etc. We run our auctions approximately 2-3 times per year so the notifications will be minimal.
If you wish to change your response to any of these questions, please contact the webmaster for further assistance.
When you register to participate in our auction, it is to verify that you are a real person and to allow us the necessary information to follow through with the transaction once the auction is completed. Our approved member who offered the item(s) you won will also receive your contact information to complete your reservation. If you did not successfully win the item you bid on, your information will not be passed on to anyone but will remain within the auction's history within our system.
Once registered, your login is maintained in our system if you ever wish to participate in one of our travel auctions again. Because we use PayPal as our main form of payment, we do not store any financial data on our servers. PayPal is the most accepted form of online transactions for auctions in the world. If you have an email address, you can send PayPal payments securely. You can sign up for your own PayPal account here.
