Fishing Reports 2017

Saltwater Fishing Report for the week ending June 26, 2012

Provided courtesy of Tyee Marine.

Fishing has been increasingly productive the past several weeks with higher than expected runs of Fraser River Chinook passing through Johnstone and Georgia Strait. Most anglers are fishing south of Campbell River, from Shelter Point to Bates Beach near Courtenay. Typically, at this time of year, Chinook fill in from southward until they are present at the Cape Mudge Light and the Hump.

As usual at this time of year, Dogfish are quite prevalent at the southern tip of Quadra Island, and they will key on organic baits like Herring and Anchovy, causing a lot of nuisance for anglers. Between the end of May and the end of October, bait is not recommended south of Seymour Narrows. Some of the better tackle choices have been Jelly Crush hotspot flashers paired with Christmas Tree hoochies. Purple Haze flashers fished with White Tiger Prawn hoochies, and 5" Tomic Tubby plug # 639.

Halibut are still coming in from the hump, the numbers are good, they are getting slightly smaller on average as time goes on.
