Auction FAQs
If you have some questions about the auction, please search below.  We have taken the time to address some of the most frequently asked questions here.  If you do not seen the answer you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact us.

How does this auction work?
This auction is live from March 1st - April 11, 2006 and will be an annual event for Campbell River Tourism.  All items listed will end on April 11 and the highest bid will win the item.  The items listed are all from approved members of Campbell River Tourism and are tourism related.  The public is welcome to bid on these items to help plan their vacation to our region.  Check back often as new items will be added throughout the six weeks.

How does it cost to register?
It is FREE for you to register and participate in our auction.  You just need a valid email address that you have access to.  Click on the REGISTER button and fill out the form then check your email to get your password.
How do I register to place a bid?
To place a bid on an item listed, you must register first by clicking on the REGISTER button on the auction page (it's free!).  Once you receive your access, log into the item you wish to bid on and bid to win!

I am from Campbell River and would like to place an item up for auction. How do I do it?
You must be a member of Campbell River Tourism to place an item up for auction.  Please contact us for further details.

What is a reserved bid?
The reserved bid is the actual value of the item if you were to purchase it from the Seller directly.  It does not mean that you have to match that price to win the auction.  To win the item, you simply need the highest bid.
What is a bid value?
The bid value is the amount that you must bid on the item to place a bid.  The value is pre-determined by Campbell River Tourism based on the value of the item being auctioned and will automatically show up in the form to place a bid.

What is "Automatic Bidding"?
"Automatic Bidding" is a feature you can choose to use to increase your chances of winning an item.  What is does is automatically place your bid (up to your pre-determined maximum) whenever you have been out-bid by someone else.  To turn this feature on, you must check the check box, enter the maximum amount you are willing to pay, and then choose an increment amount.  The increment must be at least the predetermined increment amount or higher to use this feature.  You will be notified by email every time you have been out-bid, whether you choose to use this feature or not.

When does the auction end?
The auction will end on April 11, 2006 for all items listed.  The closing time for each item is displayed when you view the details of the item you are interested in.  All invoices will be sent out on April 12, 2006.  Payment in full must be received within 14 days of the closing date.
What happens if I win the item?
If you are the highest bidder when the auction closes you will receive an email requesting payment detailing the balance due including all applicable taxes.  You will have seven days to respond by email with your intentions and choice of payment method. If no response has been made in those seven days, the next highest bidder will be contacted and given the opportunity to purchase the item for the value of their bid.

What are my payment options? Do I get a receipt?
You may pay by PayPal online or by Certified Cheque through Priority Mail.  Click here for all the details.  You will receive a receipt for your purchase from Campbell River Tourism Promotion Society.

What is PayPal?
PayPal is an Ebay company and provides secure online payment options.  Set up an account and you can securely send or receive money through your email address.

How do I sign up for PayPal?
You can sign up for PayPal here.  It is easy!
How do I make the reservation booking for the item I won?
Reservations are made directly with the Seller of each item.  The Seller information will be listed on the email sent to you when you win an item.

What if I have questions about an item on the auction?  Where do I get answers?
The Seller of the item is the expert on their item listed.  Please email the Seller directly with your questions, call them, or visit their website.  They are happy to answer any questions you may have.
What if I am the second highest bidder and the highest bidder did not pay within the required 14 day period?
If you are the second highest bidder and contacted by Campbell River Tourism because the highest bidder did not follow through, you will receive the opportunity to purchase the item for the amount of your bid.  You will also have 7 days to inform us of your intentions to make payment and 14 days to send us payment, including all applicable taxes.  You are not obligated to purchase the item if you are contacted.

I am a visitor to Canada, do I still have to pay the taxes?
Yes, we are a Canadian business and are required by law to collect all applicable taxes on items purchased through Campbell River Tourism.  You may be eligible to receive reimbursement for some of the taxes you have paid.  Please contact the Seller of the item to inquire about the applicable taxes and the amounts.  All items will have at least GST applied which is 7% of the total amount.
